IN-PERSON, SEATTLE-AREA WOMEN’S “DITCH DIET CULTURE” BOOK CLUB/DISCUSSION GROUP AND ONLINE MEETINGS
We discuss books and topics that address food, eating and body image, in a way that is positive, empowering and educational. The in-person group meets at a local coffee shop (usually in Bellevue, WA), the online group meets on Zoom; we discuss a different book or topic at each meeting. This group is for women who are tired of trying all the latest diets, only to feel worse about themselves in the long-term than when they started. Are you ready to ditch diet culture and learn about an alternative approach that shifts the guilt and shame about food and body into curiosity and self-compassion? Are you ready to feel free with food, weight and body image? Participants will have a chance to share their perspective on the books and discussion topics, as well as have opportunities for group coaching, as time allows.
* GET IN TOUCH TO JOIN THE EMAIL LIST AND GET THE LATEST UPDATES
* It’s fine to come for the discussion, even if you haven’t read the book!
DISCUSSION TOPIC – JANUARY 2026: RETHINKING NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 28
* Online: 5:30-7pm (Pacific time) via ZOOM
THURSDAY, JANUARY 29
* In-person: 10:00-11:30am (Pacific time) at 5 Stones Coffee, Bellevue
Rather than trying to fix yourself and do more this year, what if you were to resolve to be kinder and gentler to yourself, and actually do less?
What if, instead of resolutions, you focused on your intention for the year (e.g, how you want to feel rather than what you want to do)?
Before the meeting, listen to this podcast interview:
New Year’s Resolutions on the Her Well Being Podcast and/or read this article: It’s Time to Choose Your Word of the Year, or just come for the discussion!

Why join the book club? “It’s easy to confuse dieting & being thin with great health – but what if that isn’t true? I joined the Ditch Diet Culture Book Club out of curiosity – but also because of my passion for food & healthy eating, & my personal work with clients dealing with food sensitivities. At the same time, I was aware that such obsessions with food – as necessary as it might be, is, in the end, no different from dieting – both of which can easily lead to disordered eating & being very persnickety around food choices. This is exactly what this Book Club aims to dismantle! After reading the very smart selection of books that Joanne has come up with, I’ve been learning to relax around food, obsess less & enjoy more! The Ditch Diet Culture Book Club is a great way to challenge your beliefs & perceptions in a supportive, open-minded environment.” -KK
At a recent meeting, instead of a book discussion, BWN offered a free presentation: “Are you Tired of Dieting and Worrying about What to Eat, and Ready to Finally Relax with Food, Weight and Body Image?” Get in touch with BWN to collaborate together to organize this presentation for a group of friends, clients or colleagues.
